The Karl Stoecker 'Glam Era' Photos is a large collection of photographs most of these photos have not been seen in over 36 years.
These 70's Pop Art photographs play a key role in representing London's Glam Era capturing the essence of that famed moment in pop culture.
The collection is split into 3 sections- The 'Glam Pin-ups', Amanda Lear in 'The Allen Jones Series' and Rock & Roll which includes album covers and outtakes of the early Roxy Music albums as well as Lou Reed’s ‘Transformer’ and Sparks’ ‘Kimono My House’.
The 'Glam Pin-ups' is a private project Karl was shooting as a wink to the 40's Alberto Vargas pin-ups. Part of the glory of these photographs is the seamless collaboration with his contemporaries. The models are fantastically styled with 40's retro inspired fashions designed by famed British designer Antony Price, and beautifully modeled by Gala 'it girl' model of the day who was favored by Ossie Clark.
Shot from 1972 to 1974 on St Michaels Street, London, in a studio over a garage, the vintage Glam Rock Pin-ups are a phenomenal collection of all things British-- music, fashion, it girls, polka dots, leather, glitter, satin & lipstick.
The 'Allen Jones Series' is modeled by singer Amanda Lear with brilliant makeup by famed makeup artist Pierre Larouche, most famous for the 'lightning bolt' make-up on Bowie's Aladdin Sane. Makeup is extremely important to this series as the photos are based on Allen Jones' paintings like Amanda's red painted legs in the 'SAVE SALE' photos with gold glitter on her back.
The 'Rock & Roll Album Cover Series feature the first Roxy Music cover and features Kari-Ann Muller, Karl's first pin-up model. The second Roxy Music album cover 'Stranded' features Marylin Cole, Playboy Playmate and Penthouse Playmate of the Year. The third Roxy Music cover 'For Your Pleasure' features Amanda Lear. The series also includes the infamous shot of Ernie and Gala Mitchell from the inside cover of Lou Reed's 'Transformer' and Sparks’ ‘Kimono My House’.
